For many years, Generations has partnered with others to offer an Adult Day Services program in the building located on Ridge Avenue, just behind the Center. Our first partner in this service was the North Penn Visiting Nurse Association. Together, our organizations met with architects and other Adult Day Services programs in the area to design a space that would be home-like, welcoming, and supportive of the special needs that Adult Day Services clients present.
After construction was finished on that building (owned by Generations), the North Penn VNA offered an excellent Adult Day program for over 15 years. After the North Penn VNA was purchased by Abington Hospital, the new management for the VNA decided to close the Adult Day program. So Generations began the process of looking for a new partner to provide that valuable service.
Four years ago we formed a new partnership with Catholic Healthcare – affiliated with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. After completely renovating the building, the folks from Catholic Healthcare moved in and opened a new program which served families in the Indian Valley for the past four years. At the end of May, Catholic Healthcare closed their program.
We are extremely grateful to these partners who have provided such sincere and supportive care to all of their clients (and their clients’ families) over the years. Adult Day Services is a very challenging business to sustain because of reimbursement rates. However, both of our partners have done their best to improve the daily life of clients who need a little more support, and the daily life of the home caregivers who support them.
The building is currently vacant while the Generations Board of Directors evaluates future possible uses for the facility. Although we don’t know exactly what that will look like at this point, we are committed to establishing a partnership that provides related support services and care for our Generations members and their families.
